Spotlight on Spot Cooling with Portable Evaporative Coolers

The purpose of this information is to explain what spot cooling is and highlight alternatives to achieve the best outcomes for your team. It will focus on one particular solution – Portable Evaporative Coolers. These units utilise the natural process of evaporation to cool air.

Spot cooling in industrial facilities is defined as the focused cooling of specific team members performing an activity at a workstation or a designated part of the facility where sensitive production or technology equipment may be deployed.

In large open areas it may not be viable to cool the entire area due to cooling loss with openings such as roller doors etc. Accordingly, it makes commercial sense to generate a targeted cooler environment – after all why cool empty spaces e.g., in a large distribution centre most of the space is used for storage (if non-flammable or perishable).

A portable solution offers the flexibility to move the cool air where and as required; from workspace to workspace or to temperature-sensitive machinery to reduce downtime.

Using the Ouber PACISD evaporative air cooler as an example from our range; it is versatile in application – able to cool areas up to 150m² but is also suitable for spot cooling. The PACISD uses a water pump to circulate water from the water tank on to four cooling pads. The 1.1KW fan draws air from outside the unit through the pads and as it passes the air is cooled by evaporation.

Other features include single direction air outlet with air distance of 28m, low power consumption, variable speed and simple connection to a regular garden hose for continuous water supply. As evaporative cooling requires no refrigerant gasses the units are eco-friendly and energy efficient.
